Uncovered Stories exhibits a body of narrative work from a sisterhood of artists who share a love of process and materials. The unbroken threads of decades-long conversations about their lives, relationships, families, and art and politics are woven into the work they present. This artist group of women are bound together by sharing secrets and are comforted by the vulnerability and intimacy that arises from uncovering their stories through artwork.
The urge to create is itself transformative and necessary, a balm for the soul. Some of the work exhibited was finished just as the pandemic was beginning; other pieces came together during the shutdowns last year, and some have just been finished as the artists enjoy the benefits of vaccines and a new shared studio space. This is the light, the hope, that is emerging as surely as spring has emerged. Viewers are invited to be collaborators in completing the circle from the birth of an idea to the magical process of turning that idea into an art object that is put on display for all to engage with.
These three artists pull back the curtain on a variety of stories rooted in the processes and materials they use to conjure their narratives, inspired by daily life and the way these women skillfully and passionately navigate the multifaceted roles they play, stating emphatically: We are sisters, wives, mothers, aunts, daughters, grandmothers, soulmates, girlfriends, caregivers, teachers, advocates, activists, artists. We hope you can see yourself in our stories.

Memories Evoked: Circling Back Home
For two decades, three artists with a shared aesthetic have met together, grown and supported each other. Though the artists express themselves through media as diverse as painting, assemblage and fiber, these three women share a passion for the found objects, ephemera and colors chosen to give voice to the subject matter they explore here: memories evoked."Shift" by Gayle Pritchard |
